Lunch

Lunch menus are based on sound nutritional practices.  Nutritional guidelines are followed that encourage a balanced diet and limit the fat and sugar in the meal.

Free/Reduced Lunch

Children need healthy meals to learn.  Diboll ISD offers healthy meals every school day.  Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-priced meals.  To apply for free or reduced-price meals, use the Free and Reduced-Price School Meals Application, which is sent home with your child at the beginning of school.  Be sure to fill out all required information and return it to your school's cafeteria.

Pre-Payment Options

Option 1:  You can send in prepayment monies at any time to be deposited in to your child's account.  This is not a charge account, it is a debit account.  You may pay for meals by the day, week, or month with cash or check.  We have a computerized system, the best part of this system is that each student now as an "account" with us.  This means that money is deposited into the account and then the student can purchase food items using that account balance only.  At mealtime, the student inputs his/her personal ID number and the computer will access his/her account balance.  The cashier will let the student know when their balances are getting low.  Please make checks payable to the school cafeteria.  Students can turn in their deposits anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  You can also make the check for multiple students.  Please do not include payment for other school events in the money for meal accounts.

Option 2:  MyNutrikids.com is an online payment system that has been established so parents have:

"No more worries about my forgotten lunch money"

MyNutrikids.com® is a secure, family friendly system for online prepayments and nutrition education that integrates with the NUTRIKIDS software.  The MyKids feature lets parents make prepayments to their children's school meal accounts and track item purchases.  MyTray and MyNutrition help inform both children and parents about good nutrition.  Your district already provides healthy meals for children.  MyNutrikids.com helps make sure administrators, children and parents know it!  Click on the following link to set up your online account, www.MyNutrikids.com.

Charge Policy

Diboll ISD does allow Primary and Elementary students to charge meals up to $7.50.  However, if the student forgets money and the charges are up to $7.50, the student will be provided a peanut butter or cheese sandwich with milk at no charge.  There is no charging allowed at Junior High and High School.

Texas Public School Nutrition Policy

The Texas Department of Agriculture has created new nutrition guidelines to promote a healthier environment in schools.  These new guidelines were designed because childhood obesity and other diet-related diseases are increasing at alarming rates in our school-age children.  The problem doesn't end with just being overweight or obese.  Children who are overweight are at risk of developing serious long-term health problems, including Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke, hypertension, high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, asthma and certain cancers.

These new guidelines focus on cutting down the amount and type of fat in the diet and cutting down on sweets and other foods that are high in calories and low in nutrients.  For example, soft drinks and candy are limited at the secondary schools and eliminated at the elementary schools.  Foods such as pastry, ice cream, and fries are restricted in the portion and frequency in which they can be served.  Food from outside sources may not be brought on campus at the elementary schools and are restricted at the secondary schools.  For more detail on these guidelines, see the handout given in the school registration packet.

Foods available on school premises should provide for the nutritional well-being of children and can be considered as carefully as other education support services.  Nutritious meals can improve students' concentration and help them succeed academically.  These new guidelines became effective August 1, 2004 and are an important step forward in improving the nutritional health of students.
